Why go travelling? A mid-life crisis?

So why are we taking the kids out of school, resigning from great jobs and embarking on a family gap year?  We thought it might be because we, the adults, have always loved travelling, both having done the traditional post-education gap year but the further we go into the planning the more we’ve asked ourselves that WHY question.  Why do we want to go? And basically we decided it comes down to time.  We want to spend more of it with our kids, before they get too trapped into the cycle of testing and qualifications and quite frankly before they get too grown up to want to spend so much time with us.  Is this a good enough reason? Is it noble or selfish? Or is it just a mid-life crisis?  Well time will tell us that too, but one thing is certain, you never have enough time and it never comes back, so we are just going to make the most of now and worry about all the other stuff later.
